Driver Jailed After Killing a Pedestrian Whilst Travelling More Than Double the Speed Limit

Arthur MacVean was found guilty of causing the death of 26-year-old David Young in June 2010, after travelling over 60mph in a 30mph zone. In the trial he stated that the car had a “mind of its own” and although he tried to slow the car down, it kept going faster. Mechanics who examined the car found nothing wrong with it. The judge agreed with the defence QC that there was “no satisfactory explanation for the offence” and MacVean was jailed for four and a half years and banned from driving for 10 years.
